WHAT SHOULD YOUR TODDLER BE LEARNING NOW?
Intellectual Skills:
Symbol recognizing: Toddlers are beginning to recognize that numbers stand for quantity and letters stand for sounds.
Problem solving: Toddlers are starting to have more flexibility in how they solve simple problems.
Imaginative play: As their knowledge increases, toddlers use imagination in their play on an everyday basis.
Intention understanding: Toddlers are beginning to understand the difference between the intentional and accidental actions of others.
Language Skills:
Increasing Vocabulary: Toddlers begin to experience a spurt in their vocabulary starting around 18 months. Day by day their vocabulary increases.
Increasing Grammar: As their vocabulary increases, toddlers begin to join words into simple sentences, and as they do, their understanding of grammatical rules is increasing.
Social Skills:
Social play: As they grow, toddlers begin to actively engage others in their play.
Understanding of social convention: Toddlers are just beginning to understand some simple rules that guide social interactions, such as sharing and taking turns.
Ability to respond to empathy: Toddlers are beginning to be able to comfort others who are in distress.
